Timmy’s Story
Timmy is a momentum day trader from Alabama. He is one of the younger members of the community, and when he began trading, he was still in school. Timmy is an entrepreneur and has been running his own pressure-washing business where he lives. Adding a couple of hours of day trading in the mornings before he heads out with the pressure-washing equipment has been a nice routine for him.
Unlike a lot of beginner traders, Timmy respects the risk in the market and took the approach of starting very slowly. He wasn’t desperate to make money as he already had income from his other business. Instead, Timmy paid his dues, and slowly but surely has progressed to becoming a very consistent and profitable trader. He earned his $25k badge at Warrior Trading and then his $50k badge.
Timmy’s Strategy
Timmy is a momentum trader and is very much a scalp trader. Scalp trading is when you take very quick trades with fast entries and exists. There are a couple of drawbacks to scalp trading. The first is that profit to loss ratios tend to be negative. It’s easy to take profit when you’re up 3-5 cents per share, but it can be difficult to keep losses that small. The second drawback is that commissions can be substantial. Timmy has been able to mitigate commissions by trading with ThinkorSwim.
In a recent 10-day head-to-head trading challenge with Ross, Timmy took over 1,000 trades. Averaging more than 100 trades per day. Meanwhile, Ross took just 5 trades/day. While Timmy is a Warrior Pro graduate and learned momentum trading from Ross, he has applied his own unique spin on it.
